E-Foil for Beginners — an approachable electric hydrofoil board designed to reduce the intimidation factor of advanced water sports.
Designing for a Beginner, Not an Expert
Entering the project with limited prior experience in e-foils required a strong focus on research and accessibility. I studied a wide range of existing designs and performance standards before defining a direction centered on simplicity and approachability. A 28-inch mast was selected as a beginner-friendly standard, while rubber grip was integrated into both the board surface and handles to improve control and confidence. A bright, inviting color palette was chosen to reinforce the product's welcoming character and reduce the intimidation often associated with advanced water sports.
Mast, Wings & Propulsion
The mast connects the board to a rear-mounted electric propeller and a front stabilizing wing. Beginners rely on the foil's front and rear wings for lift and stability at low speed — a shorter, beginner-length mast keeps the board closer to the water surface, which is more forgiving to ride and easier to recover balance on than the longer masts used by advanced riders.

Grip Where It Matters
A textured rubber deck pad runs the length of the board for secure footing, while a molded handle recessed into the rail makes the board easier to carry and control when entering or exiting the water. The soft-touch teal bumper wraps the board's edge, protecting it on transport and providing a visual, approachable contrast to the black working surface.
